Xylene is used for thinning paints, enamels, varnishes, and alkyd resins. Similar to Toluol but the evaporation rate is about five times slower. Slower evaporation makes it a superior solvent for certain cleaning and degreasing applications. Use only when the coating manufacturer recommends it as an approved thinner.
